VISIT THE ETHNOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF MALLORCA
Are you curious on how life in Mallorca was 200 years ago? If so, come visit the ethnological museum in Muro where you will get a unique insight in the life of a Mallorcan family during the Middle Ages. Pass through the pharmacy, the kitchen, the courtyard with the blacksmith and the many exhibitions rooms to discover how things were done back in the days. The museum is housed in a stunning mansion in the heart of the town and visits are free.
GO TO THE BEACH
This is one of the more obvious things to do in Muro. The beach, which is part of the stunning bay of Alcúdia, is recognized as one of the greatest beaches in Europe.
VISIT THE PARISH CHURCH OF JOAN BAPTISTA
This was one of the first churches built in Gothic style in Mallorca, it is unique because of the separate bell tower that was added later. The church is as beautiful on the inside as it is imposing from the outside. There are a wealth of religious art to discover in the chapels and the main altarpiece.
DISCOVER THE BEAUTIFUL BULLRING OF MURO
Bullfighting has been part of the Spanish culture for centuries, and even though the sport is no longer practiced in Mallorca, the bullring of Muro is still worth a visit. This is one of the most stunning bullrings, it pay homage to Spanish architecture with white walls and red ascent.
SEE THE CHAPEL OF BLOOD
The chapel blood is another point of interest to see in Muro. The little chapel was donated by a priest in the 15th century, and meant as a place for handing out food to the poor, as a place to worship the Lord and as place for the jury to meet. It is one of the oldest religious building on the island, built in traditional basilica style according to the repoblación.
SEE THE CLOSED CONVENT OF SANTA ANNA
The convent of Santa Anna has a central role in the community of Muro. It began back in 1584 when the minims order came to town and settled. Back in the Middle Ages, the convents had much impact on the everyday life of the Mallorcans, as they nuns and monk would participate in education and do charity work for the communities.
DISCOVER THE BALEARIC WILDLIFE IN THE S’ALBUFERA NATURE PARK
Muro is home to the largest wetland on the Balearic islands, the s’Albufera park, home to more than 200 species of wildlife. The diverse nature is one of the biggest attraction forces in Mallorca, and in the s’Albufera, you can follow the many gravel paths to discover it up close. Watch birds, smell the scents, enjoy the views of the many lagoons between the vegetation and much more at this truly amazing nature park.

January
Festes de Sant Antoni
Sant Antoni is a celebration that happens in most villages in Mallorca, as he is the protector of animals, which is closely linked to the agricultural areas of the island. On January 16, come an enjoy the bonfires all over Muro along with performances of traditional Mallorcan dances and music with xeremiers. The day after, on January 17, you can enjoy the blessings of animals by the church. This is quite a sight, as people show up with their pets that receives blessings from the priest.

About the area of Muro
Muro is a municipality located in the northern part of the Pla de Mallorca region, comprising a surface of 5.856,87 hectares and a population of 6.931 inhabitants as of 2018. Muro is one of the most versatile areas in the region, but also of most contrast. The northern part of the municipality is the coastal area of Playa de Muro, a very popular holiday destination full of state of the art hotels and modern amenities. The southern and central part of the municipality is characterized as rural and tranquil.
History of Muro
Vestiges of first human occupation in the area of Muro are quite uncertain. However, several founds and excavations suggests that the area was inhabited already during the Copper Age, one of these is the site of Ca na Coxtera. From the Talayotic culture (1,100 – 300 BC), the site of Son Parera Vell stands out as an example. By the road of Camí Son Morei, there is another archaeological site which is meant derives from the Talayotic era. This site is rather isolated as no other nearby constructions has been found.
With the Roman conquest of the island 123 BC, the city of Pollen-tia (Alcúdia) was founded, as well as several small villages in the surrounding areas. From that time, burial sites has been found in the area of Son Sant Martí. Also the name of Muro seems to derive from Roman times, as “murus” means “wall” in Latin, and the area has always been known for its many stone queries.
